UWB Asset Tracking for Cleanroom Material Management

2026-04-01

Eforthink develops industrial location systems that connect physical resources with digital workflows. In a project for an unnamed information and communication technology enterprise, the company implemented UWB asset tracking to support material management in cleanroom production.

The installation addresses time spent searching for materials, limited movement visibility, and the risk of misplaced resources. Material tracking gives workshop teams a location reference they can connect with operational records, supporting more consistent coordination in a tightly controlled manufacturing environment.

UWB Asset Tracking for Cleanroom Material Management

Project Background

The ICT enterprise operates cleanrooms with strict requirements for dust, temperature, humidity, and electrostatic conditions. These environmental controls are part of its production process and remain distinct from the location platform's functions.

The client needed faster material searches and better records of where resources remained or moved. Eforthink configured UWB asset tracking around those management requirements. The objective was to improve workflow visibility while matching installation and maintenance practices to the cleanroom's operating rules.

UWB Asset Tracking: Project Solution and Implementation

The asset tracking system combines industrial UWB hardware and management software. UWB anchors receive signals from material-mounted tags, and the positioning engine calculates locations for the application. Material tracking records can then be associated with the resources and workshop activities they represent.

UWB offers high positioning accuracy and resistance to multipath interference, but actual performance depends on the installation. Equipment, metal structures, and occlusions require assessment. The arrangement of UWB anchors and tags is therefore part of commissioning, together with the accuracy and availability required in the monitored areas.

Cleanroom suitability must also be confirmed for the actual hardware and cleaning procedures. Enclosure materials, mounting, disinfectants, and maintenance routines should be checked against the site's requirements. A rugged enclosure or an IP rating alone does not establish compatibility with every cleanroom classification or cleaning agent.

Eforthink integrated the platform with the client's workshop management environment. The asset tracking system shares location information with operational workflows, helping teams use current positions without repeatedly checking separate records.

Solution Value and Customer Benefits

The project brings UWB asset tracking into everyday material management. Material tracking lets staff locate tagged resources, view current positions, and review how long materials remain in defined areas. These records support faster searches and more informed coordination, with the resulting time savings depending on the workflow.

Material Tracking and Dwell Monitoring

Material tracking helps supervisors understand where resources are available and where delays may be developing. Available, timestamped historical movement records provide additional operational context when investigating misplaced items or unexpected dwell times.

Eforthink's Cleanroom Positioning Approach

Eforthink combines hardware, a positioning engine, and application software within its location platform. UWB anchors and appropriate, correctly associated tags provide the positioning layer, while integration makes those records useful to workshop teams.

The asset tracking system can be configured for the client's production and management requirements.
