Visual Digital Management Project for a Large R&D and Manufacturing Campus

2025-04-18

The company specializes in the research, development, and production of Thin-Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display (TFT-LCD) devices and related products. In 2019, its annual revenue surpassed 100 billion CNY, with multiple production lines nationwide and subsidiaries operating across 19 countries and regions. Its service network spans major global markets, including Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. The company was recognized on the "2019 Forbes China Most Innovative Enterprises List," highlighting its leadership in technological innovation.

Challenges

Strict operational protocols prohibit employees from carrying mobile phones into restricted work areas to ensure production safety, intellectual property protection, and operational efficiency. This restriction introduced complexities in workforce communication and real-time scheduling.

Additionally, the campus faced challenges in managing high volumes of visitor vehicles, requiring robust traffic control to safeguard personnel and maintain production order. Confidential zones demanded stringent access controls to prevent unauthorized entry and potential data breaches.

As a technology industry leader, the company sought to build a cutting-edge Industrial IoT (IIoT) system utilizing RTLS (Real-Time Location System) and UWB solutions for high-precision indoor/outdoor positioning. The vision was to integrate 3D modeling, virtual reality, and data visualization technologies to digitally reconstruct physical entities—such as offices, laboratories, warehouses, production lines, and personnel—enabling real-time location tracking and a fully visualized smart factory ecosystem.

Solution

Following extensive collaboration, eforthink Technology’s UWB-based RTLS solution was deployed. The system integrates:

Outdoor vehicle and visitor positioningusing UWB solutions for centimeter-level accuracy.

Indoor Real-Time Personnel Location Trackingvia customized e-ink badges and PDAs equipped with RTLS

Convergence of access control, consumption systems, video surveillance, equipment alarms, fire safety protocols, and broadcast systems.

Key functionalities include:

Smart Employee Badges: Unified platform for real-time location tracking, automated attendance, access control, alarm triggers, and SMS notifications.

Confidential Zone IsolationUWB-powered geofencingtriggers instant alerts for unauthorized access attempts.

Asset Protection: Alarms activated if high-value assets are moved beyond designated zones.

Visitor Management: Predefined routes with real-time trajectory monitoringand access restrictions.

Emergency Response: Fire safety and broadcast systems linked to RTLS, enabling instant evacuation alerts.Automated Inspections: Route planning, process recording, and data analysis for maintenance workflows.

Equipment Alert System: Fault alerts automatically assigned to technicians via PDAs, with closed-loop resolution tracking.

Conclusion

By deploying RTLS and UWB solutions, the project established a multi-dimensional IIoT framework that addresses operational inefficiencies while enhancing safety and transparency. The integration of Real-Time Personnel Location Tracking and 3D visualization technologies resolved challenges in production optimization, security enforcement, and resource allocation. This system not only streamlined daily operations but also elevated the campus’s reputation as a benchmark for smart, tech-driven manufacturing. The successful implementation underscores the transformative potential of real-time location tracking in industrial settings, paving the way for future innovations in IoT-driven enterprise management.
